The NBASRDC's small research grant competitions are now closed. Current grant holders are asked to submit their final report to the Centre's administrative assistant by April 30, 2009.

Conditions Associated with Research Grants

  1. Grants are restricted to Research Associates of NBASRDC who are full-time or part-time faculty members at St. Thomas University during the academic year when the grant is awarded. All full and part time faculty of St. Thomas University are eligible to become members of the Centre. To apply for membership please send an expression of interest to the NBASRDC Centre Assistant at
  2. Grants awarded to part time faculty and faculty on sessional appointments must be used before the expiry of their current contracts.
  3. The NBASRDC will not generally pay for undergraduate research associates or assistants unless all other funding opportunities have been explored.
  4. Research grants cannot be used to attend conferences.
  5. Funding will not generally be awarded for the purchase of computer equipment or computer software.
  6. Approval from the St. Thomas Research Ethics Board is required before funds for research involving human subjects are released. For more information about research needing REB approval, please contact, Chair, St. Thomas University Research Ethics Board (
  7. Research grants are to be used by the expiry date specified in the letter awarding the grant unless a request for an extension is approved by the NBASRDC.
  8. Recipients of grants will be required to produce a 250 word report which summarizes their work by the date specified in the letter awarding the grant.

Evaluation of Applications

The following criteria will be used to evaluate proposals:

  • Potential contribution of research to knowledge about New Brunswick
  • Clear definition of rationale for the project
  • Coherence of proposal
  • Feasibility of programme of research
  • Rationale for budget
  • Other things being equal, priority will be given to researchers who are establishing new research in this area of study
